L’ autunno del 1989 è ricordato per la prima uscita della maglietta Stussy World Tour. Shawn Stussy ha creato quello che sarebbe diventato un concetto duraturo nei disegni di t-shirt grafiche. L’idea e l’esecuzione erano semplici:contrapporre due culture dai mondi tradizionalmente diversi – uan linea di stile che era stata usata nell’arte e nella musica. Sulla parte anteriore della t-shirt, nomi di città associate a giganti della moda di fascia alta e glamour sono scritti in un formale Helvetica. Londra, Parigi, Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, queste sono state le città considerate capitali dello stile del mondo contemporaneo. Il retro è stato stampato con nomi di borghi dove il nostro tipo di cultura di strada era davvero fiorente. Considerate buie e sotterranee, queste aree urbane non sfruttate stavano per scuotere il mondo. Scrawled in un manoscritto disegnato a mano, la parte posteriore della t-shirt si scontra con il fronte in stile, look e significato. I graffiti erano un grido di questa band di outsider – Brooklyn, Bronx, Compton, Santa Ana e Venezia – nel 2006 Stussy ha reinventato questa classica e iconica T-Shirt con il World Tour Project. Un gruppo di oltre 40 artisti è stato selezionato a mano e invitato a fare la loro interpretazione della maglietta World Tour. Sono grafici, graffiti artist, designer di abbigliamento e fumettisti. Il loro stile unico di scrittura manuale e la visione artistica sono stati scelti specificamente per adattarsi alla nostra ethos e identità. Le t-shirt sono state distribuite in piccoli gruppi a partire dal marzo 2006 e nuovi design sono stati abbandonati durante tutto l’ anno. Il secondo semestre dell’anno ha visto anche alcuni eventi speciali e collaborazioni per questo progetto. Tutti hanno costruito e creato nuove pagine in una storia senza fine.

The fall of 1989 was remembered for the first release of the Stussy World Tour t-shirt. Shawn Stussy created what would become an enduring concept in graphic t-shirt designs. The idea and execution were simple: juxtapose two cultures from traditionally different worlds – a style device that had been used in art and music. On the front of the tee, names of cities associated with giants of high-end fashion and glamor are written in a stoic and formal Helvetica type. London, Paris, Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo – these were the cities considered to be the style capitals of the contemporary world. The back of the shirt was printed with names of boroughs where our kind of street culture was actually thriving. Considered dark and underground, these untapped urban areas were about to shake up the world. Scrawled in a hand drawn manuscript, the back of the t-shirt clashed with the front in style, look and meaning. The graffiti was a shout-out to this band of outsiders – Brooklyn, Bronx, Compton, Santa Ana and Venice – that is reppin’ a new vibe, direction and attitude.In 2006, Stussy reinvented this classic and iconic t-Shirt with the World Tour Project. A group of over 40 artists were handpicked and invited to do their rendition of the World Tour T-shirt. They were graphic designers, graffiti artists, clothing designers and comic book artists. Their unique hand writing style and artistic vision were specifically chosen to fit with our ethos and identity. The t-shirts were released in small groups starting in March 2006 and new designs were dropped throughout the year. The second half of the year also saw some special events and collaborations for this project. All built and created new pages in a never-ending history.
