Medicom Toy Christ Unlimited White Herman Makkink A Clockwork Orange
Nel 2016 Medicom Toy ha reso omaggio ad uno dei film più iconici del nostro tempo: A Clockwork Orange (Arancia Meccanica), ristampando un pezzo di design inconfondibile, presente in una delle scene più famose.
Disegnato originariamente da Herman Makkink nel 1971, la figura di “Christ Unlimited” è stata poi inserita nel capolavoro di Stanley Kubrick “Arancia meccanica“. La statuetta a due pezzi presenta un’immagine di Cristo in una posizione sollevata da una danza popolare tradizionale dei Balcani, qui ricreata in una finitura completamente bianca.
Le sculture di Christ Unlimited sono entrate nella cultura pop attraverso la loro inclusione nella camera da letto di Alex nel film.
L’artista Herman Makkink, che le ha create, spiega come è successo: “Le figure di Christ Unlimited non sono state progettate appositamente per Arancia Meccanica. Facevano parte del mio lavoro in studio all’epoca, e, dopo averli visti lì, Kubrick ha deciso di usarli per il film perché probabilmente avevano l’aspetto futuristico che lui e sua moglie volevano. Alla fine degli anni Sessanta e all’inizio degli anni Settanta, noi artisti londinesi ci sentivamo terribilmente alla moda. Non volevamo combattere l’establishment quanto piuttosto scioccarli. Christ Unlimited è stato ispirato da una statuetta di Cristo crocifisso che avevo trovato. Il braccio sinistro e le gambe dalla vita in giù erano stati spezzati. Li ho sostituiti in una posa più gioiosa – quella di una ballerina in mezzo a una danza popolare popolare dei Balcani e del Medio Oriente, conosciuta come The Butchers Dance“.
I Christ Unlimited sono fatti di una resina plastica resistente (Polystone) con finiture perfette. Sono disponibili in un set da 2, quindi se si vuole ottenere lo stesso effetto di Alex DeLarge si dovrebbero comprare 2 set .

In 2016, Japanese toy makers Medicom Toy reissue a truly iconic piece of design, originally featured in perhaps one of the most iconic films of our time. Originally designed by Herman Makkink in 1971, the ‘Christ Unlimited’ figure went on to be featured in Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece ‘A Clockwork Orange’. The two-piece figurine features a doctored image of Christ in a position lifted from a traditional folk dance of the Balkans, here recreated in an all-white finish.
The Christ Unlimited sculptures entered pop culture through their inclusion in Alex’s bedroom in the movie A Clockwork Orange.
The artist Herman Makkink who created these explains how this happened: “The Christ Unlimited figures were not designed especially for A Clockwork Orange. They formed part of my studio work at the time, and, after seeing them there, Kubrick wanted to use them for the film because they probably had the futuristic look he and his wife wanted. In the late sixties and early seventies, we, London based artists, felt terribly hip. We didn’t want to fight the establishment so much as shock them. Christ Unlimited was inspired by a crucified Christ statuette that I had found. The left arm and both legs from the waist down had been broken off. I replaced them in a more joyous pose – that of a dancer in the midst of a popular folk dance from the Balkans and the Middle East, known as The Butchers Dance.”
