Gli A Tribe Called Quest (ATCQ) erano un gruppo hip hop statunitense formatosi a St. Albans, Queens, New York nel 1985. Il gruppo era originariamente composto dal rapper e produttore principale Q-Tip, dal rapper Phife Dawg e dal DJ e co-produttore Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Il quarto membro Jarobi White partecipò soltanto al primo disco e lasciò il gruppo amichevolmente nel 1991.
ATCQ viene considerato il pioniere della musica hip hop alternativa, John Bush di AllMusic li ha definiti “il gruppo rap più intelligente e artistico degli anni ’90”. The Source ha dato al loro album di debutto, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm un punteggio perfetto di cinque ‘microfoni’ che non aveva mai dato prima. Nel 2005, A Tribe Called Quest ha ricevuto il premio Founders Award al Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Awards e nel 2007 è stato premiato al 4° VH1 Hip Hop Honors.

A Tribe Called Quest (ATCQ) was an American hip hop group formed in St. Albans, Queens, New York in 1985. The group was originally composed of rapper and lead producer Q-Tip, rapper Phife Dawg and DJ and co – producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Fourth member Jarobi White only participated in the first album and left the group amicably in 1991.
ATCQ is considered the pioneer of alternative hip hop music, John Bush of AllMusic called them “the smartest and most artistic rap group of the 90s”. The Source gave their debut album, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm a perfect five ‘microphone’ score it had never given before. In 2005, A Tribe Called Quest received the Founders Award at the Billboard R & B / Hip-Hop Awards and in 2007 was awarded the 4th VH1 Hip Hop Honors.
