Stussy ha collaborato con l’ artista GHOST per la realizzazione di due iconiche t-shirts in serie limitata nell’aprile del 2009.

Cousin Frank aka GHOST è nato nel Bronx a metà degli anni ’60. Utilizzò il mondo della scrittura di graffiti sui muri per liberare l’aggressività e sopravvivere. Prese i tunnel e imparò rapidamente come percorrerli bene e prosperò persino lì. Tra gli altri scrittori si guadagnò rapidamente una reputazione e divenne noto per il suo “non dare un atteggiamento fottuto” e per i suoi tag e vomiti che erano ovunque, specialmente sui treni. Inoltre è stato riconosciuto per il suo stile unico e combinazioni di colori, mentre ha iniziato a dipingere pezzi a grandezza naturale con linee ondulate pazze e un aspetto funky (lo chiama il suo stile Bugaloo). A differenza di altri scrittori, raramente pianificava ciò che stava per creare, rischiando con ciò che e dove avrebbe scritto. Chi ha familiarità con la storia dei graffiti, lo definisce uno dei “duri a morire”. Per il suo atteggiamento estremo e l’inesorabile ambizione di bombardare i treni,  che crede sia il luogo in cui i graffiti hanno il significato più vero. A causa di questa convinzione, e poiché Frank vede le sue radici nei graffiti come una questione di sopravvivenza, non si è mai sentito a suo agio nel trasferire ciò che ha fatto per le strade e si allena su tela o in gallerie. Lo sviluppo del suo stile di disegno che sopporta l’influenza del suo stile di ricostruzione gli ha permesso di fare una transizione tra i due mondi. Il suo stile di disegno a penna e inchiostro altamente dettagliato in bianco e nero condivide la stessa rischiosa spontaneità dei suoi pezzi. Entrambi possiedono lo stesso stile lineare ondulato distintivo con motivi intricati e look fantasy da sogno. Qui anche Frank inizia senza idee preconcette, attuando pratiche di disegno automatiche surreali, così come altre immagini surreali. C’è poco spazio per l’errore nella sua tecnica di disegno. Proprio come non c’era nei suoi giorni di bombardamento. Questi vincoli sono stati bilanciati dallo strano umorismo quasi giocoso dei personaggi dell’artista, dalla sua strana sensibilità, che egli riassume come “bruciato”. I nuovi dipinti di Frank fondono alcuni di quei personaggi fantasy antropomorfi dei suoi disegni con i colori vibranti per i quali i suoi pezzi sono noti. Queste opere combinano l’energia in faccia e l’esternalità dei suoi vomiti all’interno dei contorti fantastici meccanismi interni dell’inconscio dell’artista.

Cousin Frank aka GHOST was born in the Bronx in the mid 60’s. He turned to the world of graffiti writing on walls to release aggression and to survive. He took to the tunnels and quickly learned how to navigate them well and even thrived there. Among other writers he quickly gained a reputation and became known for his “don’t give a fuck attitude” and for his tags and throw-ups which were everywhere, especially on trains. He also became recognized for his unique style and color schemes, as he began to paint full size pieces with crazy undulating lines and a funky look (he calls it his Bugaloo style). Unlike other writers he rarely planned what he was going to create, taking chances with both what and where he was going to write. Those familiar with graffiti history, call him one of the “die hards.” For his extreme attitude and relentless ambition to bomb trains, which he believes is the place where graffiti has the truest meaning. Because of this belief, and because Cousin Frank views his roots in graffiti as a matter of survival, he has never been comfortable with transferring what he did on the streets and trains onto canvas or into galleries. The development of his drawing style which bears the influence of his piecing style has allowed him to make a transition between both worlds. His black and white highly detailed pen and ink drawing style shares the same risky spontaneity of his pieces. Both possess the same distinctive undulating linear style with intricate patterning and fantasy dreamscape look. Here Cousin Frank also starts with no preconceived ideas, effecting surrealistic automatist drawing practices, as well as other surrealistic imagery. There is little room for error in his drawing technique. Just as there wasn’t in his bombing days. These constraints have been balanced out by the strange, almost playful humor of the artist’s characters, by his freaky sensibility, which he sums up as “burnt.” Cousin Frank’s newer paintings fuse some of those anthropomorphic fantasy characters of his drawings with the vibrant colors that his pieces are known for. These works combine the in-your-face energy and exteriority of his throw ups within the twisted fantastical interior workings of the artist unconscious.

Each product of the Heritage section of Smooth is new and never used, it may have undergone changes in color and / or materials due to the natural deterioration of time, leaving the company Smooth from any responsibility, therefore returns will not be accepted for the aforementioned reason. The product will be delivered with the original packaging or box if it were present, the conditions of which could vary from 5/10 to 10/10 depending on the size.
